Scenic EV Island Drive, Sunday 11/5, meet at Keahua Arboretum at 12:45 pm.

KauaiEV is happy to co-organize “EV Riders Cruzin” with potluck at the end. We will meet 12:45 for the drive at the Keahua Arboretum just beyond the new bridge, leave promptly at 1pm and try to be at our potluck spot near Kealia at 2pm. We will drive the backroads of Wailua and Kapahi, which are surprisingly scenic. Part of the fun is to make a long line of EVs on the roads that people will notice.

Only EVs, plug-in hybrids and fossil-fuel-free vehicles please. Rides are available for non EV owners, email or message me to arrange, or comment on this post and I’ll get back to you.

For news and updates please follow this blog and KauaiEV on Facebook.

Thank you Sound Space Yoga for being an organizer of the event and for your commitment to Zero Emission!

Route

We will meet at 12:45 at the Keahua Arboretum, and leave from there at 1 pm. It takes between  15 and 20 minutes from the  bottom of Kuamoo Road at Wailua beach to the arboretum, consider driving it slow and make it part of the scenic route. We will drive down Kuamoo Rd. and turn left onto Kamalu Rd. at the Country Store, turn left again at Olohena Road, follow it until it turns into Waipoli, then go slightly left on Kainahola Rd. Turn right at Kawaihau Rd, follow it downhill past the gym, and just before the elementary school turn left onto Mailihuna Rd. At the coast, turn right towards Kapaa on Kuhio Highway. (The first lookout on the left is where we will park for our potluck, but first we’ll parade our EVs through Kapaa.) We will go straight through at the traffic light in Kapaa (ABC store) and 2 cross-streets further turn left at the Ono Family restaurant onto Inia Street – immediately left again onto Kauwila Street and immediately right, back onto Kuhio Highway, back to the parking lot / vista point right before Kealia. Please try to park the EV’s together for photos, there is a high chance that Hoike TV is going to be there and filming.

The shelter where we hope to have our potluck is on the bike path below, an easy 5 minute walk away. It is usually free, in case it really is occupied and we are too many we’ll go on to Kealia after the photos to find a potluck spot there.

Please try to bring to bring a dish, or pupus, or chips and salsa or guacamole or  desserts to share and your own beverage. If you have reusable picnic-ware that would be great for the environment.

We drove the route today, and I hope to be posting some footage shortly.

Hopefully we can make this the first of a series of scenic EV drives in different parts of the island!

Important! We’ll leave promptly at 1pm. If you think you might be running late wait for us along the route, in a well visible spot facing into the driving direction and we’ll slow down for you and let you in. In case you’d like to call my number is six 35 o591.

And even a better and interactive map with a gps track:

We are still in need of volunteers.
